Weekend Adventures: Plus One, Fresh Produce, New Routines

July 28, 2015 Leave a Comment

Our first weekend as a family of four! Sure we added an additional hour to our prep time and I haven’t done my hair for the last several days (but I did wash it!) – we still managed to get out and enjoy our weekend.

Definitely slowed down a bit which is my favorite part about being on maternity leave – well any vacation honestly. Things are so busy even when we don’t want them to be, so I’m soaking up having Mike home (he will be headed out for two weeks with some major ministry trips) and adjusting to two little ones. It’s a calming feeling not having to watch the clock right now, well aside from times to nurse (which Titus makes sure to remind me ha!)
Mike planned for us to visit the local farmer’s market Sunday which I absolutely loved! Since Sunday is our “work” day in a sense, I often drive by the market wishing we could browse around…but this time we got to actually stop and see for ourselves! All of the delicious fruits and veggies, and fresh DOUGHNUTS (I wish we bought more), I could have browsed a lot longer. Talking to different farmers and just bringing some great things home was well worth the trip. If you have a local one I would totally visit it – not just price wise, but the freshness I could tell immediately from when we buy at the store. Next time I go I hope to have more of a game plan/shopping list so I can really maximize my visit.
The boys enjoyed their time and I got to test out my infant insert for the Ergo I bought for Kai. Titus slept like a little prince and Kai of course munched on kettle corn almost sabotaging lunch (yolo right?)
A well needed nap for all of us and an evening grilling closed things up for my tribe – honestly does it get any better? I’m sure it does as I get to spend moments with my boys – sleep deprived, crazy, wonderful moments…

As I reflect on today, I’m most thankful that be As I reflect on today, I’m most thankful that because of the work done for social justice and continuously happening now, there are resources to celebrate diversity.

Growing up there were 2 options for hair - having “good hair” or achieving “good” hair through relaxers. Natural hair was reserved for mixed girls who had bouncy curls and length. I constantly wished to be “that” mixed girl, instead of seeing the gorgeousness of who I am.

Developing the confidence to love all of me and the hair that I have took years. Lots of tears and redefining beauty.

I’m so grateful that our boys don’t have to wish for anything other than who they are. Being able to celebrate beautiful natural hair in all its texture has built confidence in them that’s priceless.

So today I’m celebrating and thanking @youngkinghaircare for making even more space to diversify natural hair for little kings like mine. To remind them that there is value in exactly who they are ♥️ and WE SEE YOU!!

The ability to find these hair products on storefront shelves now in Target is beyond amazing for our family.

If you haven’t checked them out - PLEASE DO!! We love the product and the family behind it! #makedreamsreal #naturalhairboys
If we can gift our kids anything - quality time ov If we can gift our kids anything - quality time overrides it all.

Staying intentionally present and less annoyed at the little things. Also taking out my Nikon more this month 📷

In just a few months we’ll be celebrating 10 yea In just a few months we’ll be celebrating 10 years.

I love who we are today, because of how we committed to growing/learning through the last nine years.

Working on ourselves has made room to see the worth and value of us together.

Expecting your partner to be everything, fix everything, and fill everything - will leave you with nothing. For me to be at my best I have learned that space and role is reserved for Christ.

Releasing those expectations, owning your growth, and finding ourselves deeper in Jesus continues to be our glue.

That and lots of random 😏 time... these kids didn’t show up on their own. #ourownmarriagegoals
Since December we have been practicing how to rest Since December we have been practicing how to rest as a family - real soul rest and it’s been life giving.

On Friday evenings we cook together and disconnect. Last weekend we made this challah bread and it was delicious! Mike and I look through new recipes to prep for our time. This recipe is on the blog!

Slowing down last year taught us how unhealthy being “busy” and doing more was for us individually, as a family, and even for our kids. We were functioning in rhythms that may have appeared to be beneficial - but had negative side effects.

2020 allowed us to refocus and shift. Mike and I knew God desires for our home to benefit most - because it’s our first ministry.

Family rhythms look unique to you and I pray yours is reaping the best it can this week ♥️ #familyrhythms #familyisourfirstministry
