This summer has been bittersweet… I worked much more than I planned, but the boys were right alongside me. I envisioned the summer as my opportunity of focusing on preparing our oldest for school and slowing down much more than our normal schedule. We started off well, in terms of school prep and had spurts of focus throughout the summer, but definitely not consistently. And in regards to rest, well that’s slightly nonexistent and I’ve just let that go…awaiting for the nap times where everyone sleeps simultaneously. But it hasn’t been a terrible summer by any means.
I picked up photography simply because I decided I wanted to teach a photography class this year. Working at a school with a developing fine arts program causes you to take risks and embrace starting from the ground up more than most. I didn’t know much about the field and the courses I took with my mom simply were for fun many years ago.
So in between working in building up our children’s ministry within church and preparing for a new school year, I started capturing the boys. Listening to free classes online or podcasts on how to improve my photography skills quickly before teaching my intro course. I have to say I’ve fallen in love with the art of it. The art of moments standing still beyond time in a sense.
But I am sad to see summer go officially for us as we dive into a new school year with both boys and a new routine that I hope I have the stamina to maintain….but I am always hopeful and anticipating it will bring something great as well.
