I couldn’t have hand picked a better set of kids if I tried. Even when they’re giving me their 1000% of crazy, I still would choose them every.single.time. That must be what “they” mean when it comes to a mother’s love. Praying over our kids and speaking life into them is major for us. Our words have power especially as parents.
The Challenge of Intentional Parenting & Planning
While spending time with a seasoned couple that really speak life into us, they challenged Mike and I to be intentional this year in our parenting. To actually start creating a family plan. Not the traditional one where you set goals necessarily. This one is where we really evaluate ourselves, our marriage, our kids individually, and then our family. It’s no small task, but it was intriguing enough for Mike and I to make it a priority for 2020.
As the boys get older, I pray less blanket/general prayers and find myself becoming specific. Watching them grow into their personalities, likes/dislikes, and overall person has helped me see them with fresh eyes…almost daily.
So Mike and I have been going through what we desire for the boys with the workbook we were given. We’ve taken the time to look at each of the boys strengths, challenges, frustrations, interests, and areas we hope to see grow this year.
With intentional hearts these are our heartfelt prayers from those discussions.

Wonderkid Kai: Our prayer more than anything this year is a confidence in not just yourself, but in what God can do through you. To see yourself with more value and capability than ever before. Sure we doubt ourselves, mom and dad do often – but we still try hard things. And you sweetheart can try and even succeed at the hardest of things. Even if you fail, you’re not a failure. This is a big year of change, but I don’t want the changes you see around you to keep you stuck. We pray that you will allow some of those changes to help change things inside you for the great things to come.

Mighty Titus: You bring a fire and a spirit that doesn’t back down! I know one day I’m going to be so honored in how you use it. Our prayer this year is that we help you begin to shape and refine that fighting heart of yours. Find the times and space where you can go full force, and when within to dial back. I also pray to be the parent and safe space you need as you come into your own. Never to break your spirit son. May I have eyes to see beyond the now, so I can work hard to parent that person and protect him.

Fearless Izaiah: May you enjoy life this year and know that you are safe. You bring a light that I pray doesn’t die ever. As I have the opportunity to be with you everyday now, may I too see the joy in that. May I look to connect with you and discover who you are.
I only have you boys once in this life. May I care for you and cover you with every fiber of my being. You’re my heart and I adore each of you individually. I love you.
