As the weather begins to cool down and the leaves turn their gorgeous shades of rich red, burnt orange, and sunshine yellows the seasonal shift for autumn is making its way into our home. I’m sure you’re just as excited to take our the pumpkins and lef covered wreaths just as I am. As you change over your decor, you’re probably pulling out blankets, throw pillows, and even accents that only come out a few months each year. What’s your favorite part of fall decor? If you ask my husband, it would be the candles. He has already gone to Bath & Body Works to stock up ha!

It can be a challenge to find a balance between having too much décor, splurging, or too little (depending on your preference). Every time I walk through Hobby Lobby or Target I’m drawn to spend a ridiculous amount of money on seasonal items…because they’re just so dang cute! But, since our bank account doesn’t really work like that I have to be thrifty.

Here’s how you can save money and prep!

As the seasons change, I know that most of our décor rotates and therefore isn’t necessarily worth a lot of splurging. So, if you’re wanting to get into the spirit of the new season here are some simple and inexpensive ways that you too can get your home Fall ready:

  1. Use Pillow Covers! I love buying decorative pillows, but I’ve found having pillow inserts and interchangeable covers is the best idea ever! I usually buy mine at IKEA and pick up different pillow covers throughout the year that I like. There pillow inserts range from $1 to $5 and their covers from $3 to $20 (but you can find them on Amazon as well!). If you would rather DIY your pillow covers there are some great tutorials just think this one!
  2. Shop a season AHEAD! All of the beautiful homes online can give you major “wish I could just redo my ENTIRE house today” if you’re not careful. You’ve heard me share here before or on my Instagram that I usually buy seasonal items a year ahead. This is one of the most effective ways I’ve been able to acquire some of my favorite décor items. With that said I’ve got quite a bit of stuff I sort through and am always happy to have things I need rather then paying full price for items I may not want later on.
  3. Head to the Laundromat! My kids love our fall blankets, because they’re extra cozy and extremely warm. However, though we store them in bins throughout the year, they need a good cleaning prior to their daily usage. Since our washing machine is a decent size, I prefer to head to a laundromat for this feat. Using one like The Clothes Spin is a perfect, affordable, and clean option! For my friends in Lynchburg, VA area The Clothes Spin is a locally owned and operated 24 hours / 7 days a week, self-serve coin laundromat. From its cleanliness, safety/security at any hours, minimized wait times, affordable rates, and friendly staff it’s really a great way to knock out all of that blanket washing quickly! One of its cool features is their machines can be coin or app operated, look at technology. So if you’re like me who doesn’t carry much cash anymore, you’re in luck! Also, because we wash our heavy fall blankets, you don’t have to worry about over filling your washer either because these can wash over 80lbs!
  1. Stock Up On Firewood- If you’re lucky to have a fireplace that lets you heat your home with, then you’ll want to make sure that your all stocked up. If you chop your own wood, make sure that it’s dry and ready. It’s best to cover your firewood and store it away from the house but also can give you an easy access to get to it.

As were all enjoying the last few days of summer, make sure that you, your family and most importantly your home is prepared for the upcoming fall season. Properly maintaining your home can also enhance the value and appeal to potential buyers down the road as well as making it less effort to manage if a crisis occurs later. When the chilly weather comes, you and your home will be all set to go.

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and do Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24

There’s power in praying our family grows in God’s word and even more as we see ways to apply it daily. I’ve come to realize there’s a spiritual home we’ve been called to build it looks like this family.

In our character, how we reflect Christ, and how we model that for our kids - even invite them to do the same.

I started working on this portrait of us and wanted to symbolize how we’re planted. When times have been their hardest - it’s been God’s word that’s sustained us. #foundationinchrist
As I reflect on today, I’m most thankful that be As I reflect on today, I’m most thankful that because of the work done for social justice and continuously happening now, there are resources to celebrate diversity.

Growing up there were 2 options for hair - having “good hair” or achieving “good” hair through relaxers. Natural hair was reserved for mixed girls who had bouncy curls and length. I constantly wished to be “that” mixed girl, instead of seeing the gorgeousness of who I am.

Developing the confidence to love all of me and the hair that I have took years. Lots of tears and redefining beauty.

I’m so grateful that our boys don’t have to wish for anything other than who they are. Being able to celebrate beautiful natural hair in all its texture has built confidence in them that’s priceless.

So today I’m celebrating and thanking @youngkinghaircare for making even more space to diversify natural hair for little kings like mine. To remind them that there is value in exactly who they are ♥️ and WE SEE YOU!!

The ability to find these hair products on storefront shelves now in Target is beyond amazing for our family.

If you haven’t checked them out - PLEASE DO!! We love the product and the family behind it! #makedreamsreal #naturalhairboys
If we can gift our kids anything - quality time ov If we can gift our kids anything - quality time overrides it all.

Staying intentionally present and less annoyed at the little things. Also taking out my Nikon more this month 📷

In just a few months we’ll be celebrating 10 yea In just a few months we’ll be celebrating 10 years.

I love who we are today, because of how we committed to growing/learning through the last nine years.

Working on ourselves has made room to see the worth and value of us together.

Expecting your partner to be everything, fix everything, and fill everything - will leave you with nothing. For me to be at my best I have learned that space and role is reserved for Christ.

Releasing those expectations, owning your growth, and finding ourselves deeper in Jesus continues to be our glue.

That and lots of random 😏 time... these kids didn’t show up on their own. #ourownmarriagegoals
